With the future of in-person readings and literary events now uncertain, it's a good time to start crafting your online presence as an author.
This professional development session demonstrates, at a technical level, how to build a single-page author site on Wordpress.com using principles of effective visual design and best practices for web design. Topics covered will be standard elements of an author website, design block options within the Wordpress environment, and free online resources for image sourcing and editing. The small size of this session (maximum 7 participants) allows for questions from each participant and in-depth answers.
Basic familiarity and comfort with the Wordpress.com interface is strongly recommended. You should create a Wordpress.com account and experiment with basic design prior to the session. If you are new to web design, consider taking Creating an Author Website 1: A Beginner’s Introduction to Wordpress.
This session will be run online with Zoom, using the screen-sharing function. A strong, stable internet connection is recommended.
