Valerie Compton (Halifax, NS). Valerie Compton edits fiction and narrative nonfiction. She works with new and established writers. Services include: substantive editing, line editing, copyediting, and mentoring. Editing is tailored to the needs of the manuscript and writer. Occasionally, Valerie leads workshops in self-editing for fiction writers. Experience: Valerie Compton is author of the novel Tide Road, a finalist for the Thomas Head Raddall Atlantic Fiction Award. Her short fiction has appeared in The Malahat Review, The New Quarterly, Riddle Fence, and many other publications. She began as a book reviewer in 1991 and has worked as an independent editor, mentor, and workshop leader since 2005. Her training includes: copyediting (Ryerson), page design (NSCAD) and fiction writing (UBC, Humber College, Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference).
Tim Covell (Halifax, NS). Tim offers copy editing, structural editing, manuscript evaluation, reference checking, and formatting for poems, articles, stories, and books. He has recently edited and indexed an academic book, and several academic articles and book chapters. He works as a technical writer, and has published poetry, short fiction, essays, and academic articles. Tim also offers website design, upgrading, and tutoring, using WordPress. He has assisted several local authors update and expand their WordPress sites.
Kayla Geitzler is a host for the Attic Owl Reading Series and works as an editorial assistant for The Fiddlehead and Galleon magazines. As a professional technical editor and writer, she has worked on some of Canada’s largest petroleum pipeline installation projects and most recently, writing and designing operational training courseware in the air traffic control industry. Kayla currently runs her own business, the Golden Hour, where she offers various writing and editing services, as well corporate communication consultation and creative writing mentoring.
Cheryl Harding (Halifax, NS). Proofreading for all types of documents. Clients have especially requested my assistance on résumés, cover letters, and science documents. Other Editing tasks as well - e.g.: ensuring all points and compliance are covered to Requests for Proposals; decreasing no. of words to fit a given limit. Experience: I have provided Proofreading and Editing services (since 1984).
Renee Hartleib (Halifax, NS). Nancy Holland (Dartmouth, NS). Copy editing and proof reading for brochures, pamphlets, handouts, technical documents, recipes and other food writing. Technical writing assistance also offered. Experience: Twenty-plus years' experience in technical writing and editing in end-user documentation and instruction in fields such as defence, manufacturing, medicine, sports and tourism.
Annick MacAskill (Halifax, NS). Annick MacAskill offers bilingual (English and French) copyediting and proofreading services, as well as substantive editing for poetry and creative non-fiction.
Angela Mombourquette (Halifax, NS). Angela Mombourquette offers substantive editing on feature-length works of non-fiction. Experience: Master of Journalism, University of King's College, 2015. donalee Moulton (Halifax, NS). donalee Moulton is a professional editor/copy editor and writer/journalist. She has developed numerous award-winning communications plans and marketing strategies, and she can help you build a website, plan an awards night or media event, and develop all the online and print materials you need to make your project a success. donalee is a successful teacher/trainer and regularly teaches writing, editing, grammar, punctuation and media relations courses.
Melanie Pitman (Edit 4 Me) (Halifax, NS). Edit 4 Me offers a variety of editing-related services. These include copy editing, proofreading, and writing for just about anything: websites, grant proposals, novels, resumes, student papers...and lots more. Experience: Edit 4 Me has worked with a variety of companies and individuals, including marketing agencies, website designers, university professors, and first-time writers.
Shelley Porter (New Minas, NS). Andrew Wetmore (Clementsport, NS). Wetmore provides proofreading, editing, and copy-editing services for fiction and non-fiction authors, journalists, and playwrights/screenwriters. He enjoys helping authors get the distractions out of their texts so what they want to say gets to the reader clearly and with power. Experience: Wetmore has decades of experience as an editor, both freelance and for publishing houses and newspapers. He spent much of the past 15 years as part of, or leading, technical documentation teams for software firms.
Hui Zhou (Hammonds Plains, NS). Hui Zhou is a freelance writer (Mandarin Chinese/English), translator and interpreter. She is a member of the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia (WFNS) and a member of the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Nova Scotia (ATINS). Her translation/interpretation services cover fields including legal, community/immigration, education, business, natural science and literature (non-fiction/fiction books, essays, news, and stories).
Anne Camozzi (Antigonish, NS). Licensing of art for book design. My art reproduces well in many forms and has been used in calendars, websites, magazine covers and cards. Think about original art for your book! licensing fees are reasonable and based on the print run of the book and how art is used. Events & Publicity
Stephanie Domet (Halifax, NS). Tiny Empire Writing Workshop is a place for young writers to learn and hone creative writing skills through discussion, writing exercises, reading their work aloud, and giving and receiving thoughtful feedback. In this workshop, effort and kindness count, but spelling does not. Taught by award-winning lifelong writer Stephanie Domet in her home in central Halifax. Workshop terms last eight weeks, and are priced at $200 per child. New sessions starting in January, for writers ages 8-17.
