Writing Rumble!

On February 25, 2020, two teams of 6 Nova Scotia writers will compete to “chain-write” two short stories, each up to 400 words before passing the keyboard. Events will be held at Propeller Brewing Co. (2015 Gottingen Street, Halifax). Spectators and supporters are welcome all during the afternoon writing marathons (running from 12pm to 6pm). The competing stories will be read for the public at 7pm.

To support a participating writer, click their team's donation button below and then select their name.

  • $15 gets you a printable PDF of both finished group stories
  • $50 gets you a chance to have a character in the story named after you (we’ll randomly select two $50 donors for this!)
  • $75 gets you a printout of the completed story signed by one of the authors
  • and everyone who donates will be entered for a prize pack of books by Nova Scotia authors

The Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia (WFNS) is a registered not-for-profit organization, with official charitable status, that exists only through the support provided by government partners, member dues, and generous donations.

WFNS is an arts service organization founded on a collaborative philosophy: writers helping writers. This philosophy informs a complete cycle of development programming (such as creative writing workshops and professional development sessions) and a wide array of professional services that support the craft of writing, the business of being a writer, and the promotion of Nova Scotia writers as integral to the province’s cultural life and creative economy. WFNS has appoximately 600 members, at all career stages, for whom we coordinate special projects & events and administer invaluable ongoing programs & awards.

Our current areas of fundraising focus: operating costs for our Alistair MacLeod Mentorship Program and the Writers in the Schools (WITS) program; the endowment for our Ann Connor Brimer Award for Atlantic Canadian Children's Literature; and the bursary program for our 2020 Art of Writing summer camps for youth and teens.

You can donate to these and other programs by credit card or PayPal online (using the button above), by credit card over the phone (902 423-8116), and by cheque in person or by mail (Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia, 1113 Marginal Road, Halifax, NS  B3H 4P7).

Donors receive our gratitude and a charitable tax receipt for the value of their gift.
