An Update on Poetry in Motion: A Public Poetry Art Project

Supported by Arts Nova Scotia and in partnership with the Halifax Regional Municipality and the Halifax Public Libraries, the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia (WFNS) is bringing Poetry in Motion to Halifax.

A public poetry art project, Poetry in Motion will feature short poems and excerpts from longer poems on transit ads in buses; digital signs at libraries, ferry terminals, and recreation centres; and printed postcards throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality.

Earlier this year, the WFNS put out a call for submissions from writers based in Nova Scotia. We received an overwhelming number of entries, and are now pleased to announce the names of the ten poets whose work will be featured as part of Poetry in Motion’s inaugural year:

  • Afua Cooper
  • Jaime Forsythe
  • Sue Goyette
  • Shauntay Grant
  • Sylvia D. Hamilton
  • Shalan Joudry
  • Cory Lavender
  • Matt Robinson
  • Eleonore Schönmaier
  • Anne Simpson

The WFNS would like to thank the Poetry in Motion jurors—Karen Dahl, Andre Fenton, Amanda Peters, and Alison Smith—for their service.

The WFNS would also like to thank all the talented writers who took the time to submit their work. We received a high number of entries, and the final decision was a difficult one.

The WFNS is also pleased to announce that illustrator Jack Wong will be working on this project with us.

The selected poems will appear in public spaces starting in October. We will be celebrating Poetry in Motion at a public event at the Halifax Public Library (Central Branch, Room 301) on Monday, November 4 (7 pm; free event).
