The members and staff of the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia deeply mourn the loss of Alistair MacLeod who passed away on Sunday, April 20th.  His books, his teaching, his steadfast friendship, and his commitment to his home province have all been there for us to lean on and grow from.  In November 2001, when he won the Portia White Prize for his excellence and achievements, Alistair named our Writers' Federation as the recipient of part of that prize.  With those funds, we created our mentorship program, providing developing writers with one-on-one intensive support by senior writers for a focused period.  The mentorship program is just one of the many ways we will continue to hold Alistair close to the heart of our writing community.
