A Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia fundraiser
We're trying something a little bit different in terms of fundraising. Let me explain.
We're staging an event called 12 in 12. Taking place on Tuesday, February 19 from 8 am to 8 pm, 12 in 12 is a 12-hour writing relay event. Twelve Nova Scotia writers will take turns creating a section of a short story. The writers will each write 200 or so words before passing it on to the next author to try to figure out where to take the story next. The writing relay will take place in The Wardroom at the University of King's College.
And ... a drum roll please! Here are the participating writers and when they'll be writing:
- 8 am Chris Benjamin
- 9 am Sean Bedell
- 10 am Stephen Kimber
- 11 am Lesley Crewe
- 12 noon Sarah Mian
- 1 pm Carol Bruneau
- 2 pm Kate Inglis
- 3 pm Alison DeLory
- 4 pm James Leck
- 5 pm Janet Barkhouse
- 6 pm Cooper Lee Bombardier
- 7 pm Jon Tattrie
Once the writing is all over at 8 pm, we plan to kick back and relax! We'll give an update on fundraising, and the writers will each read their section of the story aloud. Writer Pauline Dakin will be our emcee for this part of the day.
In the meantime, the participating writers and their supporters will be seeking sponsorships for their participation. Donations will receive a charitable tax receipt and there are other perks too:
- $15 gets you a printable PDF of our finished group story
- $50 gets you a chance to have a character in the story named after you (we’ll randomly select 3 $50 donors for this!)
- $75 gets you a printout of the completed story signed by one of the authors
- and everyone who donates will be entered for a prize pack of books by Nova Scotia authors
You can donate by going to the Donate button. (It's located in the blue bar on the top of the page.) Once you click on the Donate link and the PayPal screen comes up, include the name of the writer you are sponsoring in the “special instructions to seller” field. Sponsors can also call the WFNS Office at 902-423-8116 and pay over the phone. (We use Square's Virtual Terminal.) We are generally here from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm Mondays to Fridays. Any amount helps, and you will get a tax receipt for your donation.
If you want to find out how things are going on writing day, follow @WFNS on Twitter, or check us out on Facebook at The Wardroom is located in the Arts & Administration building at King’s at 6350 Coburg Road. (Enter the A&A building through the main doors (up a set of grand stairs between the exterior columns). You will see an interior staircase directly in front of you. Go down one flight of stairs, and The Wardroom is directly in front of you, through double glass doors.)
