The Writers' Fed is collaborating with Teichert Gallery (formerly Art Sales & Rental Gallery) on an exhibition called 1,000 Words. The exhibition takes place from November 14 to December 1; all of the works are for sale and perfect for gift giving.
This exhibition features work by some of the top illustrators working in Nova Scotia, including Sydney Smith, recent winner of a Governor General's Literary Award (his second!) for Small in the City. Other artists taking part include Rose Adams (also a poet), Jenni Blackmore (The Food Lover's Garden), Sarah Jane Conklin (Nesting Grounds), Briana Corr Scott (She Dreams of Sable Island), Mollie Cronin (Art Brat Comics), Belle DeMont (The Little Tree By the Sea), Angela Doak (My First Book of Canadian Birds), Emma Fitzgerald (EveryBody's Different on EveryBody Street), Letitia Fraser (recently featured at MSVU Art Gallery), Doretta Groenendyk (I'm Drawing a Picture), Christopher Hoyt (A is For Adventure, A Giant Man From Tiny Town), Patsy MacKinnon (The King of Keji), Patrick McWade, Su Rogers, Marijke Simons (A Halifax Time-Travelling Tune), Lauren Soloy (When Emily Was Small), Frances Wolfe (The Little Toy Shop), and Jack Wong (illustrator of the recent WFNS project Poetry in Motion).
To see all the works in show, check out Teichert's online gallery.
Make sure to circle Thursday, Nov. 14, 6 pm, on your calendar to join us for the opening at Teichert Gallery, 1723 Hollis Street, Halifax. You can meet the artists involved and see their work. Plus Woozles Bookstore will be on site with books by many of the illustrators.
As well, join us on Sunday, Dec. 1, 1 pm, for Woozles Story Hour and bring the kids. This special event to cap off the exhibition 1,000 Words is ideally suited for children ages two to six, although folks of all ages are most welcome! A storyteller from Woozles will bring an array of picture books and read for about a half hour to 45 minutes. Then, author/illustrators Doretta Groenendyk and Briana Corr Scott will step to the easel, draw, and answer questions about what they do. Woozles will also be selling books illustrated by the artists in the show. Plus, it’s the last chance to see 1,000 Words before it comes down. PS - bring a pillow or blanket if you like. Seating is on the floor of the gallery.
