In an effort to do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we've closed the WFNS Office at 1113 Marginal Road, Halifax, at least until the State of Emergency in Nova Scotia is lifted. 

Staff members will be working from home and can be reached by email. Workshops scheduled to take place in the near future have been temporarily suspended or moved online. Other activities, such as reading and judging for Nova Writes, online meetings for the Alistair MacLeod Mentorship Program, and manuscript reviews can continue as usual.

Remembering Jane Buss (1948-2020), executive director of the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia from 1992 - 2009. Jane died suddenly on January 9, 2020.

The Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia is pleased to announce the 2019 - 2020 roster of participants for the Alistair MacLeod Mentorship Program. The WFNS received a record number of applications, and members of the peer assessment jury (Sarah Mian, John Wall Barger, and Matt Robinson) were quite impressed with the high quality of writing samples submitted this year.

An Evening of Holiday Stories and Songs to Benefit the Writers' Fed

One of my favorite things about the holidays is hearing the late Alan Maitland’s reading of the story “The Shepherd.” For the past 40 years, CBC Radio has broadcast the classic recording about an RAF pilot flying home for the holidays.
