Kathleen Tudor

Brief Biography

Born in 1925 in Lockeport, Shelburne County, Nova Scotia, Kathleen graduated from a series of universities to end up as teacher of English literature and creative writing at St Mary's University in Halifax. Active in the WFNS, various academic associations promoting writers and writing, there was an easy transition from academic retirement in 1990 to the establishment of Roseway Publishing in the same year. The usual university sabbaticals and leaves of absence and a Canada Council grant led to publication of a number of short stories to mostly Nova Scotian journals (Antigonish Review, Atlantis, Pottersfield Portfolio, among others) and to the CBC and the BBC. In 1992 she published her first novel, Getting Away, and in 2009 her second novel Deep Roots. The long interval between novels wasfilled with journalism, book reviews, workshops, politics and the Roseway Publishing Company. In 2009, she received a commission from the Shelburne County Arts Council to write a short story. Subsequently, Five Square Miles was published in book form, illustrated by Shelburne County artist Lio Lo, and beautifully printed by Gaspereau Press. Has completed a murder mystery, Dirty Deeds set in Shelburne County, with some hope of publication. She has begun a sequel called Burnt Hill. In 2006, Roseway Publishing was sold to Fernwood Books which then, in recognitions of Roseway's achievements, made Roseway an imprint of Fernwood and subsequently published Deep Roots.
