A freelancer who specializes in nature non-fiction, Magi has published dozens of magazine articles and received the National Wildlife Federation's inaugural Trudy Farrand/John Strohm Award for excellence in magazine writing for children. With a B.Sc. in zoology and an M.Sc. in plant ecology, Magi has published scientific papers in refereed journals and written wildlife-related material for government agencies and conservation organizations. She's a keen birder and hiker and is learning to play the piano. As a volunteer, she ran a skating club, taught Sunday School, minded money for a local Scout group, atlassed birds, and even preached a few sermons. Magi devoted thirteen years to home schooling her two sons, each of whom received the Governor General's Medal on graduation from the largest high school east of Quebec. Magi has broadcast personal essays on CBC Radio One and has logged fifteeen years with the Writers in the Schools program. She lives in a 150-year-old farmhouse near Tatamagouche and is currently Down Under, exploring Aussie nature and culture and publishing daily posts on her blog site, The Seeker.
