John C. Kennedy was born in Massachusetts in 1943 and immigrated to Canada in 1971 to conduct anthropological research in Labrador. Kennedy has a PhD from Michigan State University and taught anthropology at Memorial University between 1973 and his retirement as Professor in 2004. He and his family reside on a farm in North River, Nova Scotia. Kennedy divides his time between writing (non-fiction and fiction), farming, beekeeping, and attempting to improve his playing of guitar and banjo. Kennedy is currently writing a collection of fictional short stories about hockey, tentatively entitled The Rink. John C. Kennedy played the role of the Stage Manager in the Hubtown Players production of Thorton Wilder's Our Town, with four shows in July 2010. Kennedy is a co-investator in a large, five year research project in partnership with the Labrador Metis Nation. Kennedy's research that will involve new fieldwork in Labrador and archival research in Europe, the US, and Canada. Depending on scheduling, Kennedy hopes to share his writing experiences with students in schools, under the WITS program.
