A freelance journalist, editor, and consultant, Alison has published articles on a wide range of topics in local and national publications. With a specialty in health-care communications, she writes regularly for the Medical Post, is Atlantic correspondent for Drugstore Canada and contributes to www.canadianhealthcarenetwork.ca. She edited a book about safe medication use called Take as Directed that will be published by ECW Press on Sept. 1, 2010. Alison also writes news and feature stories for Today's Parent, Halifax Magazine, Progress, Healthy Living in Atlantic Canada, Optimyz, Canadian Grocer and others. She is copy-editor for Saltscapes and an academic editor for professors and PhD/Masters candidates. As a business writer/consultant, she prepares reports and critiques web sites, and works with authors on book proposals. She recently indexed a nonfiction book.
Alison is active at Mount Saint Vincent University where she sits on the alumnae board, chairs the Alumnae Weekend Committee, and is an advisor in the public relations faculty. In Sept. 2010 she will begin her Master of Public Relations degree there. As a creative writer Alison has written a children's novel and just completed her first full-length contemporary women's fiction manuscript. She blogs regularly on topics that interest her including parenting, running, travel, equal rights, environmentalism, education and, of course, writing.
