Ian Colford is a fiction writer living in Halifax. His work has appeared in The Antigonish Review, Event, The Fiddlehead, The Dalhousie Review, Grain, Canadian Fiction Magazine, The Journey Prize Anthology, and others. His writing has received support from the Canada Council and the Nova Scotia Arts Council. He was editor of the Pottersfield Portfolio from 1994-1998. In 2001, his manuscript, Sophie's Blood, was awarded the H.R. (Bill) Percy Prize for unpublished novel.
Ian spent the month of September 1998 in residence at the Hawthorndon Castle International Retreat for Writers, in Lasswade, Scotland. Since then, he has attended workshops in Canada and the United States and worked with writers such as Alistair MacLeod, Isabel Huggan, Wayson Choy, and Dorothy Allison. In March 2008 he spent 3 weeks at the Yaddo artists' community in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Ian was the winner of the Margaret and John Savage First Book Award (2009 Atlantic Book Awards) for his novel, Evidence.
