Shortlists for 2010 ABA Announced

Shortlists for the 2010 Atlantic Book Awards were released yesterday, including three awards facilitated by the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia.

For the Thomas Head Raddall Atlantic Fiction Prize:
Michael Crummey, Galore (Doubleday Canada)
Linden MacIntyre, The Bishop’s Man (Random House)
Shandi Mitchell, Under This Unbroken Sky (Penguin)

For the Evelyn Richardson Memorial Prize for Non-Fiction:
Jason I. Brown, Our Days Are Numbered (McClelland & Stewart)
Harry Bruce, Page Fright (McClelland & Stewart)
John DeMont, Coal Black Heart (Doubleday Canada)

For the Atlantic Poetry Prize:
Anne Compton, Asking Questions Indoors and Out (Fitzhenry & Whiteside)
Tonja Gunvaldsen Klaassen, Lean-To (Gaspereau Press)
Zachariah Wells, Track & Trace (Biblioasis)

Congratulations to Shandi, Tonja, and Harry for their nominations. WFNS members are also represented in the shortlists for the eight other Atlantic Book Awards - our congratulations to Jill Maclean, George Elliot Clarke, Anna Quon, Stephen Kimber, Kathy (HildaRose) Kaulbach, Binnie Brennan, posthumous nominee Greg Cochkanoff, and our thanks to all of our authors in the region who wrote fabulous books this year!

All winners will be announced on Wednesday, April 14 at the award ceremony, to be held at Alderney Gate, Dartmouth - doors open at 6pm.  The ceremony will be bookended by events across the region, held all Atlantic Book Week long!  Meet the shortlisted writers at readings, signings, panel discussions, fun stuff and more, including a day of industry and writing-related workshops at WFNS headquarters on Sunday, April 11.
